Natural Attrition

In the cycle of garden growth we become focused on the appearance of buds and their progress to full flower. Soon though, a process of natural attrition begins with winged and crawling creatures leaving a pattern of their teeth marks across leaves and petals, even consuming whole flowers overnight. The wind and sun extract moisture, growth slows and edges brown and crinkle. The petals and leaves, crush, twist, fall and seed pods form, mature into containers, then open and spill their contents to spread. This process of tearing and rubbing away, shriveling and desiccating, with its own beauty, creates the possibilities for renewal.
