After a creative life encompassing teaching, photography and craft making (jewellery and textiles) and a late life trip back to Uni for a design degree, I took a new direction into the art world.
I have long been fascinated by the urban garden and what it says about us. It daily presents us with the view of the cycle of life and constantly reminds us that life and death are woven together. As we all do it responds to attention and nurturing.
My personal perspective of the garden is close up. I love to see the shapes, colours, textures, and the wear and tear of the environment and the insect world from a few just a few centimetres.
Curiously, I had changed my name to Jardin before I had found this focus on the garden. I had chosen Jardin for its use in the gemmology area. Jardin is the technical term for the inclusions (or faults) in emeralds and it is how gemmologists tell that an emerald is natural or artificially created. I loved the metaphor.
What is even more curious now, (and for those that don’t know Jardin is the French word for garden) is that my partner’s name is Greene and I live in Caley Road. Caley was a botanist who came to Australia as an assistant to Joseph Banks, chief botanist for Captain Cook.
My artist’s tools are photography in conjunction with large scale digital printing, and mixed media and drawing.
You can see the exhibited work on the pages in the gallery. As well I am always happy to show work at the studio. Storm Gallery in Sydney www.giclee.com.au retails my work in a range of formats, sizes and prices. You can also see some of these images through Storm Gallery’s link on Saatchi Gallery.
